Pause — Privacy Policy
Pause is a local-first app. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking of any kind. Everything Pause reads about how you use your phone stays on your phone — none of it is ever sent anywhere.
What Pause accesses, and why
Pause asks for a small number of Android permissions, each used only for the purpose below. None of them involve sending data off your device.
- Usage Access — to measure how much time you spend in the apps you've chosen to guard, so Pause can show your progress and apply the daily limits you set.
- Display over other apps — to show the awareness and "paused" screens when a guarded app is opened, and the sleep-window screen during your chosen bedtime hours.
- Notifications — to keep the guard running in the background so it can enforce your limits even when Pause itself isn't open, and to occasionally prompt you to finish setup.
- Start on boot / ignore battery optimizations — so the guard keeps working after your phone restarts or while it's idle, instead of silently stopping.
Where your data is stored
All of Pause's data — the apps you've guarded, your limits, your usage history, your streaks — is stored only on your device, in Android's local app storage. Pause has no server and makes no network requests. Uninstalling the app deletes this data permanently; there is no copy anywhere else to delete, because none is ever created.
Data sharing
Pause does not share, sell, or transmit any data to anyone, because it never leaves your device in the first place. There are no third-party SDKs, analytics libraries, or ad networks in the app.
Children's privacy
Pause does not knowingly collect data from anyone, of any age — it doesn't collect data at all. There is nothing additional to disclose for users under 13.
